Daniel Trindle neglected to mention that the price of oil has undergone a significant decrease since the record peak of US$145 it reached in July 2008. Bush also refused to release oil reserves during the last spike in oil prices and I'm pretty sure it wasn't because Bush wanted America to use more renewable energy. I think the logic behind your assertions is a little thin...

Please help. My 85 year old Mother-in-law receives an annuity from deceased (Sept.1980) husband's civil service(?) [worked in Bremerton, WA at Shipyard] job. Can you give me the possoble reason(s) why she has to pay Federal Taxes yearly on her return and why she does not qualify for Social Security?

Agreed. Minimum guarantees are now 1% on most though. For many, the peace Of mind that comes from not losing while those that still fall for the buy it and die with it diversified portfolio suffer gut wrenching losses, and sleepless nights. Find the 3 co.s that offer un capped links to various indexes, not just the S&P-500, and you could be locking in double digit, tax-deferred gains in the future. Advanced Capital Management, Inc. St. Petersburg, Florida, is an independent annuity advisor contracted with those three financial institutions. All three are 100 years old or older, "A"rated or better.

Screw big oil. the environment is more important. As long as the sun is in the sky, we have energy from it. no need to jeopardize delicate balance of the planet when we have perpetual energy available to us that we don't have to drill for.

This article does nothing to explain the shortfall in the VRS system. McDonnell, previous governors and the General Assembly have used their obligation to fund the VRS as a slush fund to balance budgets and spend on other projects. Accountability not excuses is needed now. The governor and GA should create a plan to pay back the VRS and they should do it without taking anything from employees who they have been swindling and short changing.

Teachers and all local government employees are not given equal treatment as compared to state employees. State employees who would pay the 5% VRS employee contribution will receive a 3% salary increase and are eligible for a 2% bonus. Hence, the first-year impact of the 5% shift is zero. For teachers and all local government employees the 5% shift requires a 3% salary increase from local funds, so the impact on take-home pay is -2%. In addition, while the health insurance costs for state employees will remain the same, they will be going up for many teachers and local government employees. It should be noted that shifting the 5% employee contribution back to the employees does not change the amount of funding going to VRS, it just changes who is paying it.

It's a travesty that misrepresentation of greedy agents can come back on a solid company. They have good products. Just like anything else - not every product is right in every situation. That doesn't say anything about them as a provider.
